I’ve had the privilege of traveling all over the country this summer giving presentations on healthy lifestyles and behavioral change. I believe that the key to change is building commitment. I include this clip in my presentations to make a point about just what level of commitment young people need to make in order to be successful.
Sometimes adolescents and teens take a fair-weather approach to behavioral change. This is a recipe for failure. Change involves a deep commitment from the beginning. This clip from the Karate Kid illustrates the level of commitment needed. Just before the clip Daniel is asked, "Are you ready to begin training?" His response is, "I guess."
