Intellectual Testing

Tampa Area Schools Gifted Placement & I.Q. Testing

If you are looking to have your child tested privately for the Academically Gifted Program in the Tampa area, you have come to the right place.  Please click here to schedule an appointment or call (813) 774-6340.

Determining if a child is gifted is important for multiple reasons.  Intellectual testing (IQ testing) provides parents with valuable insight into their child’s emotional, academic and social development.  IQ testing is also required for the offering of special services through the child’s school.

Here in Tampa, the Academically Gifted Program (AGP) is present in several area schools including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, and Manatee County Public Schools.  A student meeting Florida State Criteria for the Gifted is "one who has superior intellectual development and is capable of high performance." (Rule 6A-6. 3019, FAC.).  The program is supported by state funds and is intended to offer academically challenging content in mathematics and science to gifted students.

If you are looking for written documentation that your child should qualify for your county's Academically Gifted Program, please use the Contact Form or call Dr. Bishop at (813) 774-6340.  Dr. Bishop has qualified many children in Tampa for AGP services.

Testing is completed in your home at your convenience or at Dr. Bishop's office location and the results are available a few days after the testing has been completed.  Tests administered include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV), the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III), the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (KBIT-2) and the Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales (RIAS).

In today’s crowded educational environment, parents cannot rely solely on their child’s school to identify their child for the Gifted Program. Parents must take the initiative as early as possible and play an active role in guiding their child’s success.  Parents who are looking to get their children into these programs often need to provide proof that their child belongs in a special or gifted program.  Dr. Bishop can provide the testing, support, and professional guidance required to navigate you through the qualification process.

Similarly, if you suspect your child is performing below expectations due to impairment in intelligence or as the result of a learning disability, then intellectual testing is necessary to gauge the classroom adjustments necessary.  Further, intellectual testing will provide direction for a treatment plan that will enable your child to gain skills and resources in order to compensate for any identified impairment.
