“There is no doubt you have been able to turn my child’s life around.  I have seen her attitude and behavior improved by 100%.  I want to thank you for holding my hand during our decision process.  You have made a positive impact on her life.”

Treatment Outcomes

Dr. Bishop can significantly improve the following areas of concern for your child:

  • Academic Performance
  • Depressed Mood and Anxiety
  • Problematic Behaviors in School or Home
  • AD/HD and ADD
  • Learning Disorders

Dr. Bishop’s treatment outcomes exceed on average documented treatment outcomes for any non-cognitive behavioral treatment orientation for improving academic performance.

Dr. Bishop’s Comprehensive CBT: (Training in Organizational Skills, Self Monitoring, Goal Setting, Study Skills, Paper Writing Skills and Memorization Techniques)

Dr. Bishop has successfully helped clients drastically change all aspects of study behaviors resulting in improved motivation, higher goal setting, and all around improved academic functioning.  They key to treatment is motivating the child though rewards, positive feedback and through their own personal success to complete the daily behaviors necessary to improve their grades.  Daily activities are identified, goals are set and behaviors are charted each day, hour by hour to steer the child down the path of success.

To further ensure success the research and findings of thousands of scientific studies from researchers and universities across the U.S. on optimizing performance, grade improvement, memorization, and goal attainment are condensed and taught to the student.  The student is then armed with the best tips and tricks available on becoming a great student in addition to a daily plan for putting these behaviors into action.

Dr. Bishop has helped hundreds of students improve their grades, although results are not guaranteed as it is unethical to guarantee results.  However, on average students that report their pre and post G.P.A. have on average improved their grades six months post treatment 27% on a 4.0 G.P.A scale.

Organizational Skills Training: (alone)

Although organizational skills training does improve grade point averages for students with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (around 12% improvement rates have been documented), the effect is not as significant when done alone.  To maximize the effect of Organizational Skills Training Dr. Bishop combines the training with instruction in Self Monitoring, Goal Setting, Study Skills, Paper Writing Skills and Memorization Techniques.

School Based Mental Health Programs:

Mental Health programs implemented at the school level produce better results for grade improvement, although the total improvement is still very low.  The University of Maryland's School Mental Health program reported that the mean G.P.A. for elementary students who were seen four or more times for mental health services over one academic year improved from 1.8 to 2.1 or 7.5%

After School Programs:

Studies documenting the effectiveness of school based interventions such as after school programs and in-school training often produce varied results for grade improvement.  At a costs to taxpayers of $10 million annually, the L.A. Bridges Programs is one of the largest and most comprehensive after school programs in the United States.  A recent report found that program participants demonstrate a slight improvement in grades increasing their grade point averages from 1.47 to 1.56 or 2.25%.

Psycho Stimulants: (Methylphenidate, Ritalin, Metadate, Concerta, Amphetamine, Dexedrine, Vyvanse, Adderall, Atomoxetine, and Strattera)

A McMaster University review of the research looked at the most scientific studies that have been done on the treatment of ADHD. The comprehensive review of 78 studies found no impact on academic improvement.  Few differences were found between the various stimulants.  Research comparing stimulants and tricyclics were inconclusive.  Stimulants may have helped the students behaviorally, but they have very slight to no positive impact on academic achievement.
